5 Essential and DIY Baby Skin Care Products That You Can Make at Home 06Jul

You and your baby will surely love these natural and easy-to-make products!

Parents are often faced with a ton of choices when it comes to skincare. Pharmacies and groceries are lined up with baby-care products from big-name brands. But how do we know which ones are truly good, organic, natural, and most importantly SAFE for our baby?

One of the most ideal ways to make sure is to make the products yourself. Not only will this ensure that you’re using the best ingredients, but you can also customize your mixes, creations and concoctions based on your baby’s reaction to them.

Here are some of the best and easiest DIY baby skincare products that you can make at home.

  1. Homemade baby wipe solution

Wipes are some of the most common and often used baby (and sometimes even adult) commodity that we buy off the shelves. This means that we may spend A LOT of cash just buying the stuff!

Save some money and clean up your baby’s mess with a moisturizing wipe solution that may work just as well, if not entirely better, than your typical 50-pack bought from the store.

Instructions:

Boil some water and cool it to make sure it’s safe and sterile. Mix this with a teaspoon of pure aloe vera, a teaspoon of olive oil, and some baby-safe liquid soap. Pour it into a bottle and shake well. Use this mixture to moisten a few napkins or a washcloth, and wipe, wipe, wipe!

  1. Homemade moisturizer

Despite having smooth and supple skin, babies also need some moisture, not only to sustain that softness, but also to provide a barrier of protection against the elements. However, most store-bought lotions use some unfamiliar, non-natural, and potentially harmful ingredients which may cause irritation.

What you can do instead is to whip up this concoction.

You’re gonna need:

  • 1/4 cup almond oil
  • 2 tablespoons of beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa butter
  • 1 tablespoon of calendula (dried)
  • 1 tablespoon of chamomile (dried)
  • 2 tablespoons of lavender

First, you’ll have to infuse all the oils by placing the herbs and almond oil into a jar (make sure that it’s heat-safe! Place the jar in a crockpot and fill that pot with a few inches of water. This process should take around 4-8 hours. Start the pot at high heat and then maintain it at a low setting to keep all the herbs and their nutrients intact.

Once the oil has been infused, sieve the herbs and place all the ingredients in a jar. Repeat the heating process again, this time with the herb-infused oil and all the ingredients listed above. Whisk away as the ingredients melt to create a thick concoction. Once all of it is melted, keep the heat on and make sure that all ingredients are combined. Add oils if needed.

When all is said and done, simply transfer your mix into a jar, and let it cool for 24 hours. Do not mix, re-whisk, or touch it! You should now have your homemade lotion for baby!

  1. Homemade baby powder

Does your baby always have a sore bottom every time you change? This may be due to some wetness seeping in from the diaper he or she uses.

Instead of buying powder from the store (which may contain talc), you can make your own, DIY baby powder!

Just use some arrowroot powder and mix it with some powdered chamomile. As an alternative, you can even use just a few drops of chamomile essential oil. Store this in a shaker simply use when needed! Easy, right?

  1. Homemade diaper rash cream

Used in conjunction with the baby powder above, you can use some homemade diaper cream to provide some additional protection for your baby’s skin and soothe that sensitive tushie.

For this, you’re gonna need:

  • A quarter cup of shea butter
  • A tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons of zinc oxide (non-nano particle recommended)
  • 2 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops chamomile essential oil

Take a hand mixer and mix all the ingredients in a glass bowl. Store and apply when needed.

  1. Homemade baby wash

A great, DIY, baby wash would be a great alternative against store-bought body washes made from harmful, detergent-based cleaning agents. You can easily make your baby clean as a fiddle and not worry about rashes or skin complications whatsoever with this recipe!

Ingredients:

  • Quarter cup mild baby liquid soap
  • ¾ cup distilled water
  • Essential oil of your choice (8 drops)
  • 2 vitamin E capsules

Instructions: Just mix all of these! The best part about this concoction is that you can make it as a great hand soap for the whole family. Vitamin E can also save your skin from drying.
